Frigidaire FFRA1011R1 10,000 BTU 115 V Window-Mounted Mini-Compact Air Conditioner Review

Last Updated on by

Best Window Air ConditionersSummer is here, and with it, the heat. If you are in the market for a new air conditioning unit this season, the Frigidaire Window-Mounted Mini Compact Air Conditioner may be a good fit for you.

Unlike other types of units, window-mounted air conditioners must be installed in a window frame. Keep this in mind when you’re determining the type of space and the dimensions of the area that you need the unit for.
Let’s get started.

Product Overview

This unit is a small window air conditioner. Its’ size makes it compact and easier to install, with dimensions (D x H x W) at 21.5” x 14.5” x 19. In addition, it’s only 60 pounds! Many window-mounted units are much larger, with weights up to 150.

It is well-suited for a smaller space and is capable of cooling rooms up to 450 ft. The unit has a BTU capacity of 10,000. A BTU is a British Thermal Unit of measurement. In terms of cooling, a BTU measures the quantity of heat that an air conditioning unit can remove from a room per hour.

It is important to determine the BTU capacity you need. If you choose a level too high or too low, the unit may have to over-work, decreasing its potential lifespan.

This unit has 3 different fan speeds paired with 8-way directional air flow, which ensures cool air will be distributed evenly at whichever frequency needed. Controls on the unit allow for easy adjustment.

One downside to window units is that they are often noisier than split-system units. However, this unit is an exception. It operates quietly with sound as low as 55.7 dBA. Even with its noiselessness, it is efficient, removing 2.7 pt. of water from the air every hour to decrease humidity.

Pros and Cons

Pros

● Incredibly small window air conditioner, only 60 pounds
● Offers 3 different fan speeds, controllable via knobs on unit
● 8-way directional air flow to heat/cool the room evenly
● Quiet operation, as low as 55.7 dBA
● Decreases humidity by removing 2.7 pt. of water from the air every hour to decrease humidity
● BTU capacity of 10,000

Cons

● No remote to control the temperature of the unit, fan speeds and temperature level are adjustable, but you cannot select a specific temperature.
● This unit is not Energy Star Certified, which means it does not have a SEER efficiency level above 14. This may result in higher energy bills.
● 1-Year full warranty and 5-Year sealed warranty is not very long, especially in comparison to the life expectancy of the unit, which is about 10 years with proper maintenance.
● Arrives in poor packaging, many customers have complained of damaged units upon arrival.

Summary

While this unit does have the convenience of size and weight, it doesn’t have the efficiency that other units offer. In addition, the warranty is lacking to say the least.

The air conditioner does offer multiple fan speeds, but you cannot control the exact temperature of the room. This is incredibly frustrating, especially since the company does not specify the lowest temperature it is capable of reaching.

In addition, if the unit requires use of a higher fan speed in order to achieve a modest temperature, it could cause the unit to operate more noisily than the lowest fan speed. This also means that this unit is probably not the best fit for a space around 450 ft. or larger. The unit advertises use for up to 450 feet, but if that is the maximum limit, it may take the most extreme settings to adequately perform.

It does decrease humidity well, removing water from the air at a rate of 2.7 pt. per hour. This is especially important during the summer. Overall, it is very affordable, and if you don’t mind the lack of temperature specificity or lower efficiency, it’s still a viable option for a small window air conditioner.
